The most anticipated MMORPGs in 2021

With the growing popularity of games-services, players again turned their attention to interesting “long-playing” worlds, the potential of which can only be fully revealed by MMORPGs. After a little thought, we decided to collect in one material all the curious projects of the genre, whose release is expected in 2021 or later. Up to “date not announced.” We will try to keep the list up to date, so check back often.

New world

Release date: August 31, 2021

Since the Crucible project failed, developers at Amazon Games want to redeem themselves with New World, the company’s first MMO. The game features a fantasy open world called Eternum, where gamers can use swords, bows, firearms and magic, all through an active combat system based on Dark Souls.

New Worlds offers both PvP and PvE modes, as well as large-scale 50-50 battles for control of territories. Amazon is proud that over 1000 players will be able to find themselves and interact in the same world, so we really look forward to the release of the project.

Ashes of creation

Release date: to be announced in 2021

The alpha version of Ashes of Creation bodes well for the upcoming MMORPG from Intrepid. The developers promise to bring something new to the genre, namely full-fledged sandbox functions. In addition, a unique system will appear here, allowing players to fill the world map with their own homes and invest in real estate, from farms to luxury mansions.

Another notable feature of the game is the ability to raid castles with guild support and large-scale battles. Aesthetically, Ashes of Creation is medieval fantasy, and the guys at Intrepid seem to be on the brink of something great, as evidenced by the game’s approach to player-driven economy and building systems.

Release date: to be announced in 2021

Elyon, formerly known as Ascent: Infinite Realm, is a future MMO being developed by Bluehole, the company behind PUBG and TERA. Here players have to explore a huge open fantasy world in the style of steampunk. Unique is that the action takes place both on earth and in heaven. Personal aircraft are key here, serving more than just transport: many provide defensive and offensive capabilities that take full advantage of the game’s unique aerial combat.

In addition, there are ground weapons: mechs, anti-aircraft artillery and cannons, which make the large-scale battles of Elyon look like epic battles taken straight from the page of a fantasy novel.

Release date: May 2021

An MMO, in which a completely destructible (with simulation of real physics) and constantly expanding universe is modeled using voxel and vertex technologies. For example, in a collision, your ship can either fall in two or be scattered into small pieces, depending on several factors at once.

Starbase itself is built around the design and construction of starships and space stations, meteor research, galactic debris, and the like. Players can interact with each other in a myriad of different ways, including trade, cooperative construction, and battles. And finally, developer and publisher Frozenbyte announced the inclusion of a sandbox mode in the game, where you can explore your own universe alone or with friends.

Destiny’s Sword

Oriented group of battle strategy MMO, which is not enough to win one of brute force. This is because Destiny’s Sword will have unique social mechanics that require the player to competently manage the physical and morale of his squad during the battle.

Over time, the character may begin to develop mental disorders that can affect both his effectiveness in battle and the morale of the squad. Destiny’s Sword is positioned as “the first public MMO” in which personal victory fades into the background, overshadowed by the triumph of comrades. Communication with allies and coordinated actions will be an important part of success in battle.

Dual universe

Release date: to be announced in 2021

Another up-and-coming space MMO that promises a fully editable universe in which players can create vehicles, starships, buildings, and even full-size cities. And that’s not all! Developers intend to fullystew to give the players the mercy of the following aspects of their game world: politics, economics, trade and warsSuch a large-scale game can easily fall under the abundance of typical MMO problems, such as lengthy loading screens and overcrowded servers, but the authors decided to get rid of them in one fell swoop, placing all players in a single seamless game world. In general, we have already seen all this in EVE Online (except, perhaps, the seamless world), so it is doubly curious to see how the guys from Novaquark implement this. We wish them success!

Release date: to be announced in 2021

Crowfall is an upcoming fantasy MMORPG that will focus on the formation of political alliances and rivalries to divide and rule. At the moment, interaction between players has already been implemented in the form of land ownership, hierarchy within alliances, trade, and more. Players can progress within these political and economic systems, accumulating power and influence.

As for character creation, Crowfall uses a point-based system, thanks to which you can customize your preferred archetype to the smallest detail. Each avatar will have its own unique traits, it will be very difficult to find two identical builds (unless players start copying them from some forum, of course).

Not so long ago, the beta version of the game introduced a new Day-Night system and a whole list of changes that improve character progression and crafting.

Camelot unchained

Release date: to be announced in 2021

Arthurian fantasy MMO Camelot Unchained has been in development for about six years, stuck in what is called “production hell”. Development studio City State Entertainment, which has promised a huge open world sandbox with cities that players will have to build, in the last couple of years has given out very crumbs of new information.
